Where it Began
Fotini de
Araujo graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand with
a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1995. Shortly after graduation, Fotini undertook an apprenticeship as an artist & muralist to
well-known interior designer and painter, Claire Bond. During
this time Fotini met and collaborated with well-respected
English decorative painter, Charlotte Wright. Together,
facilitating extensive courses from basic paint techniques to
wood graining and tromp l’oeile, and creating specialist
finishes on walls, furniture, and decorative pieces.

Four years later, Fotini spread her
wings and Designer Brushworx was born. 14 years on, Fotini still has an ongoing
love affair with paint & brushes. Projects have been completed as far afield as
Zambia and Zanzibar. Clients include Monte Casino, City Lodge, Style Magazine,
Top Billing, and Emerald Casino. Over the years, Designer Brushworx has worked
with decorators such as Sue Bond, Rita Collaro and Chelsea Manhattan. Designer
Brushworx has become synonymous with individualised designs and inspired paint
effects.
In 2008, Keri Venter joined Designer Brushworx, first as a client and then as a
colleague. The working partnership was forged after Keri’s own paint technique
internship and an eleven-year career in Advertising at renowned agencies Wall
Street, Hunt Lascaris and Ireland Davenport. She brings added depth to the
company with her Advertising & Marketing background, and her passion for
bringing beauty to form through paint. Nowadays, Keri spends much of her time
finding common ground between clients, decorators and the creative vision of the
company.
Together the duo work with clients to transform rooms and furniture, living by
the philosophy that all it takes to breathe new life into a space, is a lot of
imagination….and a little lick of artist’s paint.
